      For the selection of fluorescent sensing signals, excimer emission by aggregate formation have gained an enormous interest due to its extreme sensitivity to the microenvironment changes. The types of chromophore and the structure of sensing elements also play a vital role in sensing performance. This article gives an overview of fluorescence sensors based on aggregation induced excimer emission of several fluorophores, such as pyrene, utilized to detect miscellaneous analytes both in vapor and aqueous phase and probe the environmental properties, of which some are made into detection devices in our laboratory. Meanwhile, we explain the two processes that excimer forms along with some representative publications. Specially, “boundary phase model” successfully interpret the selectivity and sensitivity of sensing films as prepared in our laboratory to the analytes.
