      舍伍德.罗兰因发现氟氯烃消耗平流层臭氧而获得1995年诺贝尔化学奖。该项研究成果使得各国政府禁止使用含有氟氯烃类物质的产品,成功减缓平流层臭氧的损耗速度,让人类患皮肤癌的概率大大降低。除此之外,罗兰还在汞污染、温室气体甲烷和墨西哥城空气污染源有着开创性的贡献。纵观罗兰的科学生涯,体现了富有好奇心、勇于突破自我和热爱地球环境在环境化学领域中的重要性。
英文摘要:
      Sherwood Rowland was awarded the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery that Chlorofluorocarbons deplete stratospheric ozone. The research achievement has prompted governments worldwide to ban the use of products containing chlorofluorocarbons, successfully slowing down the depletion rate of stratospheric ozone and significantly reducing the probability of humans suffering from skin cancer. In addition, Rowland has made pioneering contributions to research on mercury pollution, greenhouse gas methane, and air pollution sources in Mexico City. Throughout Rowland"s scientific career, he has demonstrated the importance of curiosity, the courage to break through oneself and the love of the earth"s environment in the field of environmental chemistry.
